Parts For 991 R 4.0L (500 Bhp)

About 991 R 4.0L (500 Bhp)

Staying true to their strengths, Porsche has introduced one of the most coveted cars in its lineup, the 2017 Porsche 991.1 911 R. After months of speculation, the 911 R is finally here, featuring a 4-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. This lightweight, high-performance machine delivers 493 bhp at 8,250 rpm and 333 lb-ft of torque at 6,250 rpm, making it arguably the best 911 of the modern era—a true testament to Porsche's engineering excellence.

The 991.1 911 R is designed purely for the thrill of driving. Unlike the GT3 RS, with its prominent spoiler, overly stiff suspension, and paddle-shift gearbox that some enthusiasts found off-putting, the 911 R offers a more straightforward, engaging driving experience. Its body resembles the Carrera, and it shares its engine with the GT3 RS.

Initially launched when the 991.2 generation 911 had been on the market for six months, the 2016 911 R is a unique version of the 991.1. Essentially, it’s a 991 GT3 minus the rear wing, equipped with the engine from the 991 GT3 R (derived from the GT3 RS 4.0 with internal modifications) and the manual gearbox from the 997 GT. This car appeals to those who fell in love with Porsches during the Ferry Porsche era (he passed away in 1998), designed for drivers with above-average skills who value inner beauty over external flashiness. Thanks to its aerodynamic design, the 911 R reaches a top speed 8 mph (13 km/h) higher than the less aerodynamic 991 GT3 RS.

The original 911 R made its debut in 1967, achieving its first victory at an 84-hour endurance event with a Sportomatic gearbox. Contrary to expectations, the 2016 911 R features a six-speed manual gearbox from the 997 instead of the seven-speed manual from the 991, optimizing for weight and performance by achieving top speed in sixth gear.

To reduce weight, the 991 R includes a manual gearbox, ceramic brakes, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) front wings and lid, a magnesium roof panel, and plastic rear windows. It omits the rear seats, automatic air conditioning, and stereo system. While the chassis is sourced from the 991 GT3 and includes rear-wheel steering (despite some purists' objections), it remains a driver-focused car.

The 991 R was available in white and silver, with paint-to-sample options. The interior featured a black dashboard with seats available in black or brown. Despite the official announcement on March 1, 2016, that orders could be placed, all units had already been sold out months in advance.
